![]() ![]() HiFiBerry Digi+ Raspberry Pi 4 Steel Case V2 - Black.I like HiFiBerry as their hats seem well engineered and come with matching cases and as a company they don't lean on nonsense audiophile claims and pseudo-science when marketing their boards. So (bar a bad/ultra cheap board) there will be no noticeable/audible difference in sound quality between them - despite what may be claimed. output a digital stream for the DAC in your Denon to decode. These are the parts you need, there are multiple different ‘Digi Hats’ you can chose from, but they all effectively do the same job ie. That will get you a RAAT/Roon 'endpoint' with a digital/optical output you can plug into the Denon S/PDIF input, then let the Denon handle the digital to analog conversion. Can anyone suggest a streamer that is Roon Ready and of a suitable level to match or better the sound I currently get from an AVR like the 8500? Ideally I want to keep it under £1k But less would be good.īut the better (or more Roon native) route is probably to get a small/cheap Raspberry Pi (running Ropieee) with a ‘ Digi Hat’. The other option would be to get a Streamer with a built in DAC. At the moment, I’m not sure how best to get Roon info showing on my TV, while sound goes via the DAC to the analogue inputs - help on that very welcome. I would use the MacBook in clamshell mode with the iPad as Controller. Any suggestions for a suitable DAC that would sound good and not be too expensive? Maybe one of the Dragonfly products? It is getting on now and may be less good than the DAC in the 8500. I have the first version of the Meridian DAC that I could use. ![]() I am not sure if I can plug a DAC in via HDMI but I guess not. I understand that I can use the MacBook via a DAC as the End Point and feed music in via the analogue inputs on the 8500. I’m still in the tial period for both products and getting to know them, so not totally familiar with the finer points. I am, when I can get it to work, using mconnect to play HiRes files on the 8500 At the moment and Roon via Airplay. I currently have the Core running on my MacBook Pro and use my iPad as the controller. ![]() That said, I do prefer the HiRes files available on Qobuz. I accept that the 8500 is not as good as a HiFi amp but actually I find it more than good enough for my old years. Tidal works fine through HEOS but I can only get HiFi level streams of songs via Airplay on to my 8500 from Roon. However, as always, there is a fly in the ointment. Looking at my music tastes and the cost of getting HiFi level streamed music on to my 8500, Qobuz and Roon seem to be a better value choice than using Tidal - as I do at the moment. ![]()
